Happy Independence Day weekend!  This has ALWAYS been my favorite holiday partly because it is celebrated in SuMMeR~my favorite season of the year!
{Coat closet/mudroom cabinet $225}
I love what this holiday symbolizes, I love seeing the lovely American flag flying on so many homes and businesses, the picnics and barbecues, the ice cream and watermelons ect.ect!!!  I'm hosting our family's celebration this year and will be making some of this some of this and either this or this! And of course burgers on the grill.  Allrecipes.com is a real lifesaver for me~I get most of my recipes here even though I own a gazillion cookbooks.
The shops are full of great stuff so if you have family in town we would love to meet em'!  We will be open our regular hours Friday and Saturday 10-4.
{Table and 4 chairs $195 for the set}

{Pretty rose detail}

Wedding season is in full swing~we have some lovely vintage wedding gowns~not in wearable condition, but beautiful for decoration. For some wedding ideas on a budget check out this fun blog~
Hannah brought in some great new stuff including this sweet french country dining set and Jeannie will be restocking her room in the morning.
Sorry I'm posting so late again, I've been repainting my bathroom and I was very excited to be using the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint on my walls and floor. I don't know if you've heard of this paint before, it's all the rage in blogland. You can go to the website to find out more about it.  I'm in love with it and will show pics soon. Don't expect many though, as we are the proud owners of the world's smallest bathroom. Seriously. You'll see.
Hope you all have a safe and fun 4'th!  See you soon!

My coastal farmhouse...in the city

Coastal Farmhouse.  I think I have finally found a fitting description for my style.  And if all my wildest dreams were to come true I would find myself living in a crusy old farmhouse by the sea~so I guess it makes sense!  The truth is, my home looks summery most of the year, but since it actually IS summer I thought this would be a perfect time to show you some pictures. I heart summer btw...{Click on pics twice to enlarge}

 This is our favorite room in the house~always light and bright and airy. When I took these pictures it was overcast and drizzly outside.
 Our living room also functions as our dining room.  This old, beat up, weathered farm table is one of my prized posessions found at The Treasure House. I hang my linens and tablecloths on this old ladder.
{Curtains,Old Time Pottery: Tie-up shades, Target}
Olivia's corner of the world where she spends most of her days. When Olivia was born she spent 6 excruciating weeks in the hospital.  I promised her that when I got her home I would make it as comfortable and as 'un-hospital-like' as possible.  It makes me happy that she spends her days in this light- filled happy room watching soaps cartoons and when mommy gets home, listening to our favorite jazz cds :)
{Screen, Hobby Lobby: stool, TJ Maxx: lamp, Kmart: lampshade, Target}
{Armoire,Pier One Imports}
I got this sweet little table from Jeannie, the lamp, chair, bench and other items are all flea market finds.
Well, ya'll know I like my ladders and chippy shutters!
This pair of shutters also came from Jeannie. LOVE.  And as far as my slipcovered sofas go, I just don't know how I would live without them.  Dog hair, stains, no problem- just throw in the wash and they are as good as new. When we bought the house the floor was covered in shag carpet. We ripped it up and put down pine boards then used latex paint and poly.  Pine is very soft wood so if you don't want little dings and dents in your floor I wouldn't recommend using it.  We however, absolutely LOVE the way our floor has weathered and scarred and looks like it's been there 100 years.

I love using mismatched chairs for a casual informal feel.  {The aqua mirror is from Hobby Lobby and the candleabra from Kmart.}
I heart my chicken feeder. At Christmastime this holds vintage silver balls and white prayer candles and the rest of the year shells. If you find one just give it a good scrub with bleach before using it :)
This blue dresser is one of my favorite pieces. A thrift store find for $50 and already painted the perfect shade of blue~gotta love that.
Hope you've enjoyed the little tour of my living room! Next up-the kitchen! Happy summer decorating!

Confessions of a lousy blogger and oh yes, a few shop pics...

When I started this blog I new nothing about blogging. I'm still learning the ropes, like take your camera EVERYWHERE and always have replacement batteries for camera ect.ect.  I have the best of intentions every week to take before and after pics and give decorating and painting tips. HOWEVER, I have a little problem with patience (gasp) and halfway through a project I will think: hmm that would have made a great makeover post.  I am trying to improve and in fact, check back Monday for some pictures of my house and some summer decorating ideas.  For tonight, though, I have a few pictures from the shop (someone's batteries went dead. I told you, lousy blogger) As always, click on pictures twice to enlarge :)
 Anyhoo, hope to see you this weekend! The shops are loaded with goodies!
