It's been a few weeks since I posted so I'm just sharing some of our latest pictures from the shop including a store-front photo for those of you who follow from afar!
We are on FACEBOOK much of the time with frequent photos, prices, ect so make sure to check us out there.  I most recently joined Instagram where I add photos of family, current projects ect...
And last but certainly not least, you MUST check out our Pinterest page for inspiration!
phew...lots of ways to keep up with Nest!

If you have not made the trip to Downtown Mebane recently, please consider a visit! The streets are lined with flowering pots and planters, restaurants have sidewalk seating so you can take advantage of the gorgeous weather, so many quaint shops are filled to the brim with unique treasures and gifts...come and spend a day in our charming downtown...you won't regret it!  More info here!

Upcoming events: Farmer's Market Grand Opening June 1'st! More info on on their FACEBOOK page.

First Thursday June 6'th  5:00-9:00 pm.   Our resident artist and my sister-in-law, Amy Fairchild will be at the shop with a large display of her pencil drawings and paintings to celebrate the theme of the evening, "Art Walk"!  June 6'th is also my daughter, Olivia's 13'th birthday so we will be honoring her at the shop with cupcakes and pink lemonade and we would love for you to stop by and see her! This is a HUGE milestone for our girl and we would love to share it with YOU as so many of our customers have prayed for Olivia and followed her story for many years.

We hope you have a delightful weekend and hope that you will make Nest part of it!

around the shop...

today it actually started to feel like summer...beautiful blue skies, warm and toasty outside! I don't know about you, but I'm starting to think of all the fun things summer brings...dinner outside by the grill {hot dogs tonight, FANCY} baseball on the radio{at least when I was a kid} ice cream cones, {had one today at Wendy's~Frosty in a waffle cone~brilliant} working in the yard until the fireflies come out.....
Even though we adults don't get summer vacation, it sure feels festive and relaxed this time of year!

We had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend at the shop and we hope you are happy with the treasures you may have received from Nest!

The Junk Files #5 {better late than never}...

so I started out with a cast-off fence post that I've been holding on to forever, some old scrap wood and some rusty hooks...

the bottom of the post was rotten so I removed it by loosening some screws...
now I needed to create a new sturdy base..

I always have scrap wood on hand so I cut three different size boards into squares each one larger than the last. I just kept adding until I felt like it was sturdy enough to stand on it's own without tipping over...

this is not a project for perfectionists  ;) none of my projects are! I was working with a semi-warped post from all it's exposure to the elements and very old boards, none of which would form a perfect square for me. Charm, my friends, that's what we call imperfections at Nest.  ;)
nice and sturdy!...

I dry-brushed the post with light green paint just to tie it in with the yummy original paint on my scrap wood...

I LOVE these little sample paints from Lowes! $3 can do a lot of small projects...
added my rusty old hooks...you can find some nice and inexpensive reproduction hooks at Hobby Lobby if you don't have any old ones...

after I scrubbed the whole thing down with soap and water and removed all the loose paint, I sealed it with poly {I like to use water-based~it dries much faster and doesn't yellow like oil -based products}. Sealing it will also protect you and your family from lead paint.

Finished product! And it didn't tip over when I hung
my 300 lb. tote bag on it :)   SUCCESS!

it's charming and sweet and will be at the shop this week!
